How Advertising Works at Credit Consensus Index

Credit Consensus Index is a commercial publication. We may accept advertising, sponsorships, paid placements, newsletter sponsorships, sponsored content, and other commercial promotion from companies within or adjacent to consumer credit. Advertising revenue helps support research, technology, editorial review, data collection, website development, and publication. But advertising does not determine independent research results.

Advertisers can purchase exposure. They cannot purchase research results.

The Short Version

Advertising is advertising. Research is research. A company may pay to advertise, but it may not pay to receive additional AI recommendations, improve its consensus score, move higher in an independent ranking, remove a competitor, suppress unfavorable research, rewrite historical AI responses, or guarantee favorable editorial conclusions. Paid commercial content should be identifiable as paid commercial content.

Advertising and Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate compensation may be received when a reader clicks a qualifying link and takes an action. Advertising compensation is paid directly for exposure, sponsorship, promotional placement, or agreed commercial visibility. These arrangements are different. Read our Affiliate Disclosure for affiliate and referral relationships.

Forms of Advertising We May Accept

  • Display, banner, native, and sponsored advertising
  • Newsletter, podcast, video, event, category, and brand sponsorships
  • Sponsored articles, research promotion, paid modules, and featured advertiser placements
  • Other clearly identified commercial promotions

Advertising Does Not Determine AI Consensus

Research begins with questions submitted to external AI platforms. Advertisers do not control which companies those platforms recommend. If seven platforms recommend Company A seven of seven times and Company B two of seven times, Company B cannot purchase a package that changes its research result to seven of seven. The historical dataset remains what the platforms actually produced.

Advertisers Cannot Buy a #1 Ranking

A company cannot purchase “#1 Credit Consensus Index,” “Consensus Winner,” “Most Recommended,” “AI Consensus Leader,” “Recommended by 7 of 7 Platforms,” or a category #1 claim unless independent underlying research accurately supports it. A paid placement above a research result is advertising, not the #1 research position.

Advertising Should Be Identifiable

Commercial content should use clear labels such as Advertisement, Sponsored, Sponsored Content, Paid Advertisement, or Paid Placement. Labels should be prominent, readable, and understandable across desktop, tablet, and mobile. They should not be hidden through extremely small or low-contrast text, vague terminology, distant placement, or a required extra click. Native advertising requires special care because it may resemble editorial content.

Advertiser Claims and Consumer Protection

Advertising may contain claims about rates, fees, savings, features, customer counts, awards, performance, or credit outcomes. A claim in an advertisement is not automatically an independently verified editorial conclusion. We may reject misleading, deceptive, inaccurate, unsuitable, or confusing advertising, and payment does not create a right to publish any claim an advertiser chooses.

Financial Advertising Receives Additional Scrutiny

Our audience includes consumers dealing with damaged credit, significant debt, hardship, limited conventional credit access, credit rebuilding, and loan qualification problems. We do not want advertisements promising impossible results such as guaranteed score increases, deletion of all negative items, guaranteed credit repair, loan approval, debt elimination, or instant restoration. Credit repair, debt relief, lending, credit-building, and monitoring advertisements should accurately explain fees, missed payments, credit consequences, eligibility, underwriting, reporting practices, and other material risks.

Advertisers and Independent Research

An advertiser may independently appear in our research, and both relationships can be true. The advertising relationship should be disclosed where relevant, while the recommendation count should reflect what AI systems produced. Advertisers may rank poorly, receive criticism, lose recommendation coverage, or fail to qualify. Non-advertisers may rank first, receive unanimous consensus, win a category, or receive a positive fit review. Advertising spend does not buy editorial protection, competitor removal, or category exclusivity.

Editorial Independence and Corrections

Advertisers generally do not preapprove or rewrite independent editorial coverage. They may identify a factual error, provide documentation, comment, or explain a product; final editorial decisions remain with Credit Consensus Index. Factual corrections are evaluated on evidence. We do not accept payment to remove accurate unfavorable research, weak consensus, historical declines, product limitations, or material factual concerns. Read our Corrections & Updates Policy.

Historical Research and Commercial Changes

Beginning, stopping, increasing, or reducing advertising does not alter historical AI recommendation data. Advertising inventory may change daily, while rankings change when underlying research changes. Advertisers cannot pay to change a historical result such as “Recommended by 2 of 7 platforms” into “Recommended by 6 of 7 platforms.” Future research may produce a different result; the historical result remains part of the record.

Commercial Services and What Revenue Can Influence

Credit Consensus Index, its owners, or affiliates may provide research, data licensing, AI visibility analysis, consulting, content services, or market intelligence. None guarantees favorable rankings. Commercial demand may influence which categories receive resources, newsletters launch, tools are built, or topics receive coverage. It should not determine what a study says, which company ranks first, which competitors are included, what AI platforms said, or what data is removed.

Targeting, Third Parties, and Performance Information

Advertising may be selected using contextual or audience-related factors permitted by our technology and privacy practices. Third-party advertising technologies may assist with delivery, measurement, attribution, campaign management, and reporting. Advertisers may receive aggregate impressions, clicks, conversions, or engagement information, but advertising relationships do not provide unrestricted access to readers’ private financial information. See our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.

Advertising Is Not a Reviewer or AI Endorsement

An advertisement does not mean OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, Perplexity, Grok, DeepSeek, Kimi, Credit Consensus Index, or Mark B. Huntley, J.D. recommends or endorses the advertiser. Payment does not permit claims such as “Reviewed by Mark B. Huntley, J.D.,” “Recommended by Mark B. Huntley, J.D.,” “Approved by Credit Consensus Index,” or “Credit Consensus Index Certified” unless a separate legitimate program and methodology supports the claim.

Consumer Safety and Advertiser Responsibility

We may request changes, pause, remove, or end advertising when concerns arise involving consumer harm, misleading claims, regulatory issues, poor disclosure, brand suitability, material business changes, or conflicts with our standards. Advertisers remain responsible for their products, underwriting, pricing, approvals, terms, availability, fulfillment, and legal compliance. Readers should review current provider terms before making a financial decision.
